Summary
- Fallout season one was a massive success, becoming Amazon Prime Video’s most popular show with 65 million views in its first month.
- Despite being overshadowed by shows like The Last of Us, Fallout season one earned Best Adaptation at Game Awards 2024.
- Fallout season two might feature MCU actor Kumail Nanjiani, causing mixed reactions among fans due to concerns about typecasting.
Prime Video’s Fallout season one was a roaring success for the streaming platform and as fans wait for its highly anticipated return, one MCU actor will reportedly join its stellar cast lineup, but some of the adaption’s devotees have mixed feelings about it. As with many gaming adaptations that come to the small and big screen, the Bethesda open-world RPG gaming title initially had reservations surrounding it due to the concern of being able to translate the interactive gameplay experience into a passive viewing experience efficiently. Thankfully, fans of the Fallout franchise had little to worry about as the show dominated 2024 and became Amazon Prime Video’s most successful TV show to date, accumulating over 65 million views in its first month.
Even though another gaming adaptation, like HBO’s The Last of Us, ended up earning more Emmys nominations and wins for its first season, Fallout season one bagged itself Best Adaptation at 2024’s Game Awards, beating the highly popular Arcane season two in the process. The post-apocalyptic series revolves around a crumbling world that has been destroyed by nuclear bombs, and, in turn, has caused a decline in society where communities are separated into communities by ghouls, humans, and other mutants spread out across cities in the Commonwealth.

Fallout Fans Divided Over Reported New Cast Member Joining the Series
As reported in October last year, Fallout season two was renewed by Amazon Prime and went into production. Of course, this was no surprise to its viewers, who fell in love with not only the show’s immersive storyline but also its diverse and talented array of characters that include Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, and Walton Goggins. However, it’s been reported that MCU star Kumail Nanjiani is joining the cast of Fallout season two, which has caused a fairly big division with some fans. Even though Prime Video hasn’t confirmed that Nanjiani will be jumping into the Fallout universe or who he could be playing, fans of the franchise already have a lot of opinions regarding this choice.
Known for his roles in Eternals, The Boys, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Nanjiani has also been reported to star in Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, so jumping into another huge gaming adaptation wouldn’t be a strange move for the seasoned actor. In saying that, Fallout fans aren’t too sure if this is the right movie for the series. In a Reddit post on the topic, one commenter stated that Nanjiani “plays basically the same character in every role” and that he has fallen into the typecasted actors category. Another Redditor said they had “Never seen him in a good role, which I can’t tell if it’s because he’s a bad actor, or if they always write terrible characters for him.” However, some fans were a bit more positive about the possibility of Najiani coming to Fallout season two. “That’s great news, he’s good even when he’s in bad or mediocre projects like Eternals, [Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi], or [Marvel’s What If…?],” reads a third comment.

Although it’s important to note that Kumail Nanjiani’s rumored casting should be taken with a grain of salt until Amazon Prime confirms it, the MCU actor could do really well within the Fallout universe due to his non-serious demeanor, which would work so well in the series’ strange and wacky world. Filming for Fallout season two was delayed due to the devastating wildfires in Southern California, but production is expected to resume again soon.
Fallout season one is available to stream on Prime Video right now.
