This past week, quite a lot of information regarding the upcoming Devil May Cry anime by Castlevania producer Adi Shankar has been shared with the public, including when fans can expect the anime to premiere, as well as the cast. Voice acting veteran and legend Johnny Yong Bosch took to Instagram to announce his involvement in the Devil May Cry anime. More specifically, he has been cast as the English dubbed voice of the franchise’s sword-slinging, gun-toting, demon-hunting protagonist, Dante.
Having been in the industry for almost thirty years, and voiced so many iconic characters, Johnny Yong Bosch is a great choice for a role like this, adding yet another major character to his illustrious career.

Johnny Yong Bosch has been a voice actor for over 25 years, voicing countless characters in various anime, including BLEACH protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki, Johnathan Joestar in the 2015 David Production adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Izaya Orihara in Durarara!!, Vash the Stampede in both Trigun and the 2023 reboot, TRIGUN STAMPEDE, Lelouch Lamperouge (vi Britannia) from Code Geass and many others. His ability to play clumsy, humourous characters and then contrast those performances with serious and emotional characters shows range, and there’s an unmistakable mastery over his intonation that really shows understanding of the characters he plays. The added treat to this casting choice for fans of the Devil May Cry games is the fact that Johnny Yong Bosch was the voice of Vergil’s son Nero in Devil May Cry V.

The Devil May Cry anime project was announced quite a long time ago when Adi Shankar announced his acquisition of the title in 2018, completing the scripts together with Alex Larsen in November 2021. The anime’s first teaser trailer was released in 2023. While it may feel like it, this isn’t the first time the franchise has been seen in anime form, as there was a 2007 Devil May Cry anime created by Capcom and produced by Madhouse, the famous studio behind countless hits from the 2000s and 2010s, including Death Note, Death Parade, the first season of One Punch Man, and more.
What’s different about this one is that it is helmed by the producer of Castlevania, possibly one of the best adaptations of the current era that has seen immense success. The upcoming anime is being produced by staff at Studio MIR (LOOKISM), and will premiere on Netflix on April 3. The first season of Devil May Cry is set to have eight episodes, and will focus on the characters of Dante, Vergil and Lady. So far, Johnny Yong Bosch is the only cast member who has been revealed, but we can expect more information about the staff and cast to be revealed at a later date.
