Yuji is the only person capable of taking down Sukuna in JJK.
Jujutsu Kaisen finally returned after a week break and it was certainly worth the wait as the author delivered what can be considered to be one of the very best, if not the best, chapters in the entire series. In this week’s chapter, Yuji awakened new abilities and unleashed them on the King of Curses, finally setting the stage for what appears to be the final segment of the Shinjuku Showdown arc.

Yuji Itadori and Sukuna have a special connection in JJK.
The series is now edging closer to its end and it appears that this battle between Yuji and Sukuna is going to be the one to settle it all. As such, JJK chapter 257 did absolutely incredible work in making sure that the series is getting closer to concluding the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and preparing for the end of the story.
Yuji Launches A Barrage Of Black Flashes
Yuji’s Black Flashes Deal Tremendous Damage To Sukuna
Close
Towards the end of the previous chapter, fans knew that Yuji would now hit a completely new level in terms of strength. However, what the fans did not know was how much stronger Yuji was going to get. Some fans expected Yuji to be only slightly stronger and for Sukuna to still hold an advantage in battle. It is safe to say that the author completely shattered those expectations and showcased Yuji experience an incredibly massive spike in terms of strength.
Beneath the scattering sparks of black…Itadori Yuji…Awakens
Yuji became extremely powerful in JJK chapter 257 and unleashed a barrage of powerful attacks on Sukuna. A lot of the fans did expect Yuji to land more Black Flashes against Sukuna, and that is precisely what happened. JJK chapter 257 was filled with black flashes from the beginning to the end and that was certainly exciting for the fans to see. As fans know, no sorcerer in history has been able to hit black flashes at will. Even Sukuna, the King of Curses, has not been able to accomplish this feat. Gojo, due to the nature of his Limitless, absolutely couldn’t. Nanami certainly did hit a few, but Yuji has been the best user of Black Flash in the series to date, and he proved that once again in JJK chapter 257.
Much to the surprise of the fans, Yuji actually managed to hit a whopping total of seven black flashes on the King of Curses and these came consecutively after the one that he hit in JJK chapter 256. As such, Yuji has hit eight black flashes consecutively against Sukuna, which is nothing short of staggering. These black flashes were incredibly powerful and had Sukuna screaming in pain. For the very first time, the King of Curses looks scared and it appears that he might actually go on to lose this battle from here onwards. Yuji’s black flashes have also done tremendous damage to Sukuna, weakening him incredibly. Sukuna himself admitted in JJK chapter 257 that his cursed energy output and physical control are dropping severely and that is expected after taking eight black flashes in a row.
Yuji is also outputting his maximum power right now, as that is the very nature of a black flash. Furthermore, hitting black flashes means that Yuji’s reverse cursed technique is getting refilled and that was evident in the chapter as well, given that he was able to heal from all of Sukuna’s attacks within a matter of seconds, which just goes to show that he is absolutely in control of this fight and, surprisingly, pushing Sukuna back greatly.
Yuji and Sukuna’s Relationship Finally Revealed
Sukuna Turns Out To Be Yuji’s Uncle
JJK chapter 257 also did great work when it comes to explaining the relationship between Yuji and Sukuna. It was clear for the fans to see that in some way, Yuji and Sukuna were related. This was clear from their physical appearance, and there were many theories out there that suggested these two might be related by blood. Most believed that Yuji and Sukuna were actually twins, and others believed that Sukuna actually ate his twin, and at some point down the line, the lineage resulted in Yuji being born. That is exactly what JJK chapter 257 confirmed.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna’s Defeat Is Finally Looking Possible
Yuji is the last hope to take down Sukuna in JJK.
In the flashback where Sukuna was seen talking to Uraume, he confirmed that he avoided the fate of being born a twin by consuming his other half inside the womb of his mother. Sukuna actually ate his twin, and that is why he has four arms and two mouths. As a result, fans know that the king of curses was not born a normal individual. Furthermore, the soul of his brother later reincarnated into none other than Jin Itadori, who fans know to be Yuji’s very own father.
Jin Itadori then procreated with Kaori Itadori, who, at the time, was brought back to life using Kenjaku’s brain hopping, and this resulted in the birth of Yuji Itadori. Yuji was birthed to be Sukuna’s vessel, and, given his special lineage, it makes sense why he was so powerful right from the beginning.
Yuji Itadori was shown to have tremendous physical strength right from the get-go. Even before he awakened cursed energy, he was a monster physically. When he awakened curded energy, he showed great aptitude for Jujutsu sorcery, and it was clear for the fans to see that Yuji was tremendously gifted. Yuji finally awakened his true powers in JJK chapter 257, and this makes him one of the strongest sorcerers of all time.
Yuji Awakens Shrine
Yuji’s Shrine Grants Him Cleave And Dismantle
Perhaps the most shocking part of JJK chapter 257 came at the very end. In this chapter, Yuji showcased the ability to utilize Shrine, which is Sukuna’s cursed technique. The shrine is one of the strongest cursed techniques that the fans have seen in the entire story. This cursed technique allows Yuji to use the powers of Cleave and Dismantle, and this is truly very dangerous. That said, Yuji’s version of Shrine differs greatly from Sukuna’s version of it. For Yuji’s version to work, he touches an object and leaves scissor markings around the area that he wants to slice off.
Drawn out by the awakened state achieved through Black Flash, the technique engraved upon the reincarnated body of Ryomen Sukuna, “Shrine.”
Then, that particular part of the body is split apart and chopped up, just as Sukuna’s version of the technique does. According to Sukuna, Yuji’s version of the technique isn’t at its very best right now, given that he just awakened it. However, that certainly does not mean that Yuji isn’t a good user of it. As he grows into the battle more, Yuji will most likely gain control over this cursed technique, and potentially manifest even a brilliant domain expansion, which could then result in Sukuna finally getting defeated.
Clearly, things are looking incredibly exciting for the fans right now, and it is only a matter of time before the King of Curses falls. For the very first time, Sukuna’s defeat is looking likely in JJK chapter 257, and it is only going to get likelier from here onwards as Yuji takes this battle by the scruff of its neck and attempts to eliminate the King of Curses, his very own uncle, for the first time ever.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258, is set to be April 28, 2024.
