The Culling Game is by far the biggest and deadliest event that ever happened in Jujutsu Kaisen. It took the lives of countless civilians and sorcerers alike. It pits strangers against each other in a deathmatch where none of them is the winner. It is the stage prepared by Kenjaku and the only one who will benefit from it is Kenjaku.

But then something unexpected happened. After what was seemingly an inconsequential fight against a rookie jujutsu sorcerer, which Kenjaku won by the way, Yuta Okkotsu appeared out of nowhere and beheaded Kenjaku. The man who had lived for thousands of years had officially gone to the underworld. While Kenjaku’s passing is certainly good news, another important question quickly pops up. Since the game master has died, what will happen to the Culling Game?

Current State of the Culling Game

Since the beginning of the Culling Game, there have been countless thrilling fights, intense battles, and shocking situations happening all over the colonies. That’s why it can be hard to remember when this strange battle royale actually began. One thing’s for sure, it seems to be in its final phase.

Near Completion

Now that more than 90% of its participants have lost their lives, the Culling Game is near its proper completion. After all, the true purpose of the Culling Game is not to find a winner but rather to collect as much cursed energy as possible, which is achieved by massacring as many people as possible.

It doesn’t matter who, it doesn’t matter how. Whether it is Sukuna rampaging across the colonies or the US Government’s troops catching and killing lots of small fries, as long as tons of people are dead, then the Culling Game has achieved its true purpose.

It goes without saying that the state of the Curling Game is crucial to the future of this series. After all, whatever happens in the Culling Game will determine the future of the Jujutsu World. Interestingly enough, rather than addressing the progression of this accursed game, the story hyper-focuses on Sukuna instead.

It’s true that every Sukuna fight in this arc has been nothing short of electrifying. One can even argue that those are some of the most iconic battles in the series. But those loud noises have effectively kept the audience’s mind and attention away from the real issue, which is the state of the Culling Game. Because no matter who comes on top between Sukuna and our heroes, the true winner is still Kenjaku and his Culling Game.

Kenjaku’s Backup Plan

As the creator and host of the Culling Game, Kenjaku has full control over what happened with this bloody game. From the unique nature of the barrier to the mechanism to collect the cursed energy, everything is designed by Kenjaku in order to complete his inhumane ritual.

A Sudden Death

Kenjaku has prepared this grand plan for thousands of years. And everything has been smooth sailing for him. That is until a rookie jujutsu sorcerer named Fumihiko Takaba appeared and forced him into the strangest battle that this series has ever seen.

It took a while, but Kenjaku eventually managed to defeat Takaba. Right after he delivered the finishing blow, however, Yuta Okkotsu suddenly appeared and sliced Kenjaku’s neck, separating his original brain from his stolen body. At that moment, the seemingly immortal sorcerer has finally met his demise.

New Rules have been Added

One of the most interesting parts of the Culling Game is the player’s ability to add new rules to the games in exchange for their points, such as Higuruma adding a rule to allow point transfers between players or Yorozu adding a rule to allow players to enter and exit the colonies whenever and wherever they want.

Kenjaku takes advantage of this feature to create a backup plan. As a man with a grand plan, he always considers every possible variable that may interfere with his plan and how to prevent it, including his own death. So he adds the following rules:

• As of 9:09 PM on November 18, 2018, no new players can join the Culling Game.
• The Culling Game will end upon the deaths of all players except Suguru Geto, Megumi Fushiguro, and Shiori Himi (Uraume).
• The authority to activate the Great Merger is passed to Megumi Fushiguro.

What Will Happen to the Culling Game After Kenjaku’s Death?

So now that Kenjaku has died, what will happen to the Culling Game? Will it end? Will it continue? How does the new rules impact the game?

The Game Continues

Usually, when the game master is gone, the game will also end. But thanks to Kenjaku’s new rules, the Culling Game will complete itself with or without him. As long as every player has died, except the ones mentioned in the newly added rules, then the game will automatically reach its planned conclusion.

Seeing as there are only a handful of people left, the fight that is currently ongoing between Sukuna and the rest of the jujutsu sorcerers from Tokyo can very well be the last and most crucial battle in this series. No matter who wins this fight, the world will never be the same.

Everything Depends on Megumi Fushiguro

Although Sukuna is the one who swatted everybody who dared to stand against him, the original body still belongs to Megumi Fushiguro. That’s why Kenjaku excluded Megumi’s name in his new rule. This is also why he left the administration of the game to Megumi because it is essentially the same as handing the job to Sukuna.

If we could pull the two souls apart to weaken the harmonization between cursed object and flesh, the chances of survival should drastically improve.

However, recent chapters have proved that Megumi’s soul is still alive inside his body. The problem is his heart and spirit have been crushed by the death of his beloved sister. If things continue like this, then it’s only a matter of time until Sukuna gains full control over the Culling Game. But if Yuji and friends can somehow awaken Megumi’s dejected soul, then there’s a chance for the good guys to take back control over this death game. So for now, the future of the jujutsu world lies in Megumi Fushiguro.
