Saint Garling Figarland was the first proper member of this family, and with him, there are two powerful individuals, one of whom is none other than the Yonko of the Sea, Red-haired Shanks. Undoubtedly, fans are wondering how the Figarland family will affect the plot of One Piece moving forward and what their role in the final saga is going to be. Needless to say, Oda seems to have carved out a very exciting role for this group.

When it comes to the World Nobles of the One Piece world, the highest of which are the Celestial Dragons, fans have hardly ever seen strong ones. By design and by personality as well, the Celestial Dragons are often portrayed to be somewhat weak and dumb. This particular idea has been implemented by Oda for a very long time in One Piece, however, what’s surprising is that fans hardly ever got to see strong Celestial Dragons up until recently in One Piece. Fans are supposed to believe that the Celestial Dragons are the rulers of the world, and more than that, that these people defeated the Ancient Kingdom and Joy Boy long ago. Yet, when it comes to strength, they’re all weak. Clearly, this wasn’t an idea Oda could’ve run with for long, and that’s why he eventually went on to introduce powerful Celestial Dragons.

In the Final Saga, fans have already seen a bunch of strong and capable Celestial Dragons, such as the Five Elders, who went on to give a glimpse of their capabilities on Egghead, but more than that, the story introduced a very exciting family with tremendous strength, who might go on to play an even bigger role in the future of One Piece. This family is the Figarland family of the One Piece world, which was first brought up in One Piece Film Red. Since then, this family has become one of the major powers in the world, and more than that, remained central to some of the most important characters.
Upon taking a look at its members, fans aren’t shocked to know why Oda gave them such an exalted role. The leader of the Figarland family is none other than Saint Garling Figarland, the Champion of God Valley. He’s known to have two sons, one of whom is a member and most likely the leader of the Holy Knights. The other son is a very popular character who fans know very well by now, and whose strength goes on to surpass that of the vast majority of those in the world. This character is none other than Shanks.

The Figarland family is bound to be incredibly powerful, and more importantly, significant when it comes to the Celestial Dragons. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to the fans, especially knowing that Shanks is a part of this family, despite not having a real connection to them beyond blood, as he is a pirate. Still, just being associated with Shanks is proof enough that the Figarland family is going to be crucial in the final saga of the story. One particularly interesting idea is that the Figarland family might go on to betray Imu in the quest for more power. It must be remembered that the Figarland family is most definitely a part of the Founding 20. For them, the position of fighting against the Ancient Kingdom and Joy Boy is absolute.

But, they have no reason to specifically serve Imu, especially since they weren’t part of the original five who pledged loyalty to Imu. After all, Imu isn’t entirely special. He too belongs to the Founding 20 family, and he swore to never sit on the Empty Throne. Imu is from the Nerona family and just like Garling’s ancestor, he took part in the battle against Joy Boy. Eventually, Imu became immortal and gained a very dangerous ability, which he is somehow able to bestow to the Celestial Dragons too, such as the Five Elders. In return, the Elders pledged fealty to Imu, but Garling might not recognize this in truth, given that for him, this has been a dark secret.

This makes even more sense when taking into consideration the fact that Garling may have been based on Yuri Gagarin (same pronunciation for the last part of the name in Japanese), who famously said “I see no God up here,” when he went to space. Perhaps, Garling plans to betray Imu at some point down the line and seize power for himself. This would make him a far more interesting character than just someone who is a puppet of Imu.

It goes without saying that the Figarland family will play a huge role in the upcoming war. Regardless of whether Garling sides with Imu or tries to take power, the Figarland family will most definitely battle to their utmost best. Garling’s son, who is the leader of the God’s Knights, will reveal his terrifying strength, while Garling himself will have not just the power of Mother Flame, but his own incredible ability as well. The Figarland family might go down as the strongest family to exist in One Piece, especially now, and it is inevitable for them to reshape the world in great ways. Be that through Garling utilizing the Motherflame to sink the world, his son using his strength to bring down Joy Boy’s allies, or Shanks betting everything on his own strength as well as Luffy to oppose the authority of the Gods and creating a new world of freedom and equality, where people don’t have to suffer. Needless to say, Shanks is the only Figarland who will prevail and establish a new world order, even if it comes at the cost of his own life, something he’s already shown he’s willing to give up for Luffy.
